On an early Sunday morning I caught this scene, the street washer had just gone by, the venders had brushed water from sidewalks, and then placed their wares on the walk. Reflections appeared to take place everywhere on the street and walks.

Painting adobe in pouring down rain can be a challenge. Of course, it´s best to paint it from inside a car with the windshield wipers going. This was my condition in making this watercolor in Winslow, Arizona, a fun project.

When I came across this mill in Wheeling, Illinois, I was glad to have the watercolors along, for it was a pleasure to paint a little bit of the19th century. It was still unchanged with grain still scattered around.

Seeing these cobblestone streets, a true Colonial look, gave a sense of peace to this old early coastal city where one can lose touch with time. The golden dome of the church, lovely to see in this tropical light, was wonderful to see.

The United Verde Copper Company of Jerome, Arizona operated this open pit mine with the Marion 300 and Osgood Steam shovels. One of the most merited operations of its time, it took five railroads over its lifetime. When the Marion 300 struck a TNT charge it blew the shovel over 1/2 mile above the rim.
